In celebration of World Engineering Day, the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Inc. (PICE) Zamboanga City Chapter, led by its Internal Vice President Rosenberg S. Caceres, and the Philippine Society of Sanitary Engineers, Inc. (PSSE) Zamboanga Peninsula Chapter, under the leadership of President Glieza E. Caceres—who also holds the esteemed position of Treasurer in PICE Zamboanga City Chapter united their efforts to make a significant impact on both the environment and the local community. The collaborative event saw the convergence of not only engineering expertise but also community leadership as engineers and community leaders come together for a Mangrove Tree Planting and Medical Mission, held on March 04, 2023, at Mampang, Zamboanga City.

The event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, including several division chiefs from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office IX and DPWH Regional Project Management Office (RPMO) of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). Their participation underscored the broader support and recognition for the initiatives taken by PICE and PSSE.
Barangay Chairman Leonard P. Aliangan was also an integral part of the event, offering his assistance and support to PICE and PSSE in their initiatives. Chairman Aliangan's presence underscored the importance of local leadership in fostering partnerships that benefit the community at large.
The engineering community's dedication to environmental sustainability and community well-being was evident as the day's activities unfolded. The medical mission, a vital component of the event, extended a helping hand to the residents of Mampang. Over 150 beneficiaries were provided with essential medical assistance, thanks to the commitment of local health workers and the provision of free medications.
However, the impact of the event was not limited to healthcare alone. Recognizing the crucial role that mangroves play in maintaining ecological balance and protecting coastlines, a total of 100 mangrove propagules were carefully planted in Mampang. These efforts align with the engineering community's broader commitment to addressing environmental challenges and contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
As the world struggles with pressing environmental and social challenges, initiatives like the Mangrove Tree Planting and Medical Mission serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration. The engineering community's commitment to sustainability, community service, and innovation shines brightly, lighting the way towards a more resilient and harmonious future.
