The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers (PICE) demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability and community welfare through a commendable Tree Planting and Community Outreach Activity held in Pasonanca, Zamboanga City. The event, spearheaded by the Zamboanga City Chapter and Sulu Chapter of PICE, brought together local engineers, officials, and residents in a collective effort to make a positive impact on both the environment and the local community.

Under the adept leadership of PICE Regional Coordinator for Region IX, Cayamombao D. Dia, the joint initiative gained momentum, promising a day of meaningful contributions to the city and its people. PICE Zamboanga City Chapter President, Jul-Arab A. Kong, and PICE Sulu Chapter President, Ajan S. Ajijul, played instrumental roles in steering this collaborative effort towards success, epitomizing PICE's commitment to fostering positive change.

On a sunny morning on May 13, members of PICE, including its National Officers, converged at the picturesque venue of Pasonanca, Zamboanga City. The event commenced with the planting of 50 seedlings of native trees, symbolizing PICE's dedication to preserving the environment and contributing to reforestation efforts. The participants, donning gardening gloves and armed with shovels, worked together to ensure the successful planting of the young saplings.

However, the event wasn't solely about ecological endeavors. PICE's commitment to community outreach was vividly displayed through the distribution of essential goods to the constituents of Pasonanca. A total of 120 pairs of slippers were given to children, brightening their faces with newfound comfort and joy. In addition, 100 sacks of 5kg rice and 100 packs of canned goods were shared among the local residents, extending much-needed assistance to those in need.
The significance of this event was further underscored by the presence of esteemed PICE National Officers. Leading the group was PICE National President April Frances Agatha G. Flores, whose visionary leadership has been instrumental in driving the institute's various initiatives. Accompanying her was PICE National President-Elect Emil K. Sadain, a figure known for his dedication to engineering excellence and community development.

Barangay Secretary Vicente M. Martin also graced the event on behalf of Barangay Chairman Efigenio E. Julian Jr., reflecting the strong support and cooperation between the local government and PICE. This partnership exemplifies the unity required to drive meaningful change and underscores the community's collective responsibility in nurturing both the environment and the well-being of its residents.
The event's success was a testament to the power of collective action and the positive influence that engineers and professional organizations can wield in their communities. PICE's dedication to environmental sustainability, coupled with its unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those they serve, shines as a beacon of hope and inspiration.

The Tree Planting and Community Outreach Activity in Pasonanca, Zamboanga City, serves as a heartwarming reminder that small acts of kindness, when combined with the expertise of dedicated professionals, can create a lasting impact that resonates far beyond the event itself. PICE's resounding success in this endeavor sets a positive precedent for similar initiatives in the future, as the institute continues to champion the well-being of both people and the environment.
